Mascot is located seven kilometres south of Sydney`s Central Business District, in the Inner South region. All of Sydney Airport`s terminals, both domestic and international, are based in the suburb and Mascot is also home to the global headquarters of Australia`s national flag carrier airline Qantas. The suburb`s entire Botany Bay foreshore is contained within Sydney Airport, with two distinct runways jutting out onto the bay.
Location
History
A market gardening suburb for much of the 19th century, Mascot then changed course in 1904 with the opening of a racecourse. The first public airfield in Mascot was established in 1920, with regular flights commencing in 1924. In the mid 20th century, the Cooks River was diverted away from the suburb to provide more space for the airport. Since opening in 1920, Sydney Airport has become Australia`s busiest present-day airport. While the majority of the suburb is taken up by Sydney Airport, Mascot`s northeastern portion is a mix of light industrial and residential land.

Mascot features three train stations on the Airport & South Line: Mascot; Domestic Airport; and International Airport. Qantas` Head Office is located on Bourke Road, with subsidiary offices located nearby and interstate. Mascot Oval and L`Estrange Park are the suburb`s key green spaces and a small shopping strip is found on Botany Road. The suburb is also serviced by a variety of airport hotels.
