Alexandria is a large and vibrant inner-city suburb found four kilometres to the south of Sydney`s CBD. Originally mostly an industrial area, Alexandria is now a thriving and trendy Sydney suburb, with a mix of newly built designer apartment buildings, and chic restaurants and bars, sitting side by side with the area`s formerly dominant warehouses and industrial sites.

History
Alexandria derives its name from a British military victory and is named after the Battle of Alexandria, which saw Napoleon defeated in the early 1800s. The suburb was founded in 1835 and by the 1940s, became the leading industrial precinct in Australia, with over 500 factories in operation. The Alexandra Canal was created in the late 1800s to provide shipping access to the suburb and its many factories - the canal is still in existence today, terminating in the suburb`s southern portion. For the past 20 years, Alexandria has gradually been redeveloped, with residential and recreational precincts now co-existing with the more established industrial areas.
