Darlinghurst is a lively inner-city suburb located one kilometre east of Sydney`s central business district, in the Eastern Suburbs. A cosmopolitan CBD-adjacent suburb, Darlinghurst is found between Woolloomooloo and Potts Point to the north, and Surry Hills and Paddington to the south. Location
History
Following European settlement, the suburb was named in honour of Governor Ralph Darling`s popular wife Elizabeth Darling. The suffix `hurst` derives from the old English word hyrst, meaning wooded area. Darlinghurst`s proximity to Sydney CBD affords it a long and colourful history. For much of the 20th century, the suburb was a slum and a red light district. Since the 1980s though, Darlinghurst has undergone a process of urban renewal and is now a coveted suburb featuring a number of unique cultural precincts within it.

Oxford Street, Darlinghurst`s main thoroughfare, is best known as the centre of Sydney`s LGBTI community. The street is home to a number of popular nightclubs. Crown Street is home to a plethora of trendy bars and restaurants, as well as vintage fashion boutiques.
