Beaconsfield is a small inner-city suburb located five kilometres south of Sydney's central business district, forming part of the local government area of the City of Sydney. History
Formerly a part of the larger neighbouring suburb of Alexandria, Beaconsfield became its own suburb in 1977. The suburb was named in honour of Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Beaconsfield, a British prime minister who served during the reign of Queen Victoria. Like Alexandria, Beaconsfield was historically an industrial suburb. The Green Square urban renewal project has seen the suburb undergo a process of gentrification and urban renewal since the early 2000s. Today the suburb retains an industrial aesthetic, but also features a number of newer residential buildings and creative businesses.
