Eastlakes is a residential and recreational suburb located eight kilometres south of Sydney's Central Business District. Containing an extensive lake system in its south-eastern portion, approximately half of the suburb is made up of golf courses and parks, with the other half consisting mostly of residential streets and a small shopping centre.

History
Eastlakes is descriptively named after the large lake system in its southeast portions and its location in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The area was formerly known as Botany Swamps and was one of Sydney's earliest sources of water: from 1859, water in the suburb was pumped to a reservoir in Paddington. The lakes that exist in the suburb today were partly reclaimed from this swampland to create viable land for the Lakes Golf Course and Sydney Airport expansions.
