Dulwich Hill is a residential suburb located eight kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the Inner West Council. A small portion of the suburb`s southern extremity sits on the Cooks River. Dulwich Hill features a number of Federation and Interwar era homes; the suburb is situated between Summer Hill and Lewisham to the north, and Earlwood to the south.

History
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Dulwich Hill today was initially known as Petersham Hill, before being named Dulwich Hill around 1892, after Dulwich in London. Dulwich Hill became part of Sydney`s extensive tram network in 1889, resulting in a period of rapid population growth in the early 20th century. It was during this period that many of Dulwich Hill`s Federation style homes were built, as well as a number of Edwardian, Gothic and Italianate buildings and houses.

Largely a residential suburb, Dulwich Hill also features two retail areas: one on Wardell Road near Dulwich Hill train station; and another a larger shopping area on Marrickville Road. The suburb`s southern extremity sits on the Cooks River, with open green space adjacent to the waterfront.
