Bronte is a popular boutique-sized beachside suburb in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, located 2.5km south of Bondi Beach. It is a mostly residential and recreational suburb with many of its highly valued homes possessing magnificent vista views over the Pacific Ocean. Its namesake beach is popular with locals and visitors alike and the relatively expansive Bronte Park sits behind it and nestles into the small valley beyond.
Bronte House was completed in 1845, and is still standing today. The house was named after Horatio Nelson, Duke of Bronte. Formerly known as Nelson Bay in the early 1800s, the suburb's current name is thanks to this historic gothic-revival estate. Bronte Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1903 and claims to be the world's oldest surf lifesaving club.
Bronte House is now a museum and may be visited at 470 Bronte Road. While most sea-lovers flock to Bronte Beach, a bogey hole also exists on the southern end of the beach, and the Bronte ocean baths are free-entry and ideal for those more inclined to swim laps without open water surf. Macpherson Street and Bronte Road are the go-to spots for cafes and restaurants, and for sightseers and walkers, the stunning cliffside Waverley Cemetery is not to be missed and is found adjacent to Bronte's Clovelly border.
