Brighton-Le-Sands is a residential and recreational bayside suburb located 13 kilometres south of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the Bayside Council. Forming part of the St George Area, Brighton-Le-Sands enjoys and extensive beach waterfront on Botany Bay, as well as a thriving high street on Bay Street. The suburb is conveniently situated near Sydney Airport and is found between Kyeemagh to the north and Monterey to the south.
Location
History
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Brighton-Le-Sands today was originally known as Seven Mile Beach, and later as Lady Robinson Beach, with the name change occurring in the 1870s. The suburb was modelled after the seaside resort town of Brighton in England, but was eventually renamed Brighton-Le-Sands to avoid complete replication of the English location`s name. A racecourse operated in the suburb between 1897 and 1911. Brighton Baths were opened around this time and were popular as a relaxing weekend destination for many a Sydney-sider.

While the suburb`s stretch of beachfront on Botany Bay is completely uninterrupted, a large portion of it is known as Brighton-Le-Sands Beach, while a small southern portion is known as Lady Robinsons Beach, paying homage to the suburb`s former name. Brighton-Le-Sands` dining and recreation hub is located on Bay Street, in the centre of the suburb.
