Rockdale is a large suburb located 13 kilometres south of Sydney's central business district, in the St George area. Rockdale is one of the administrative centres for the local government area of the Bayside Council and features a notable commercial district off the Princes Highway. The suburb is found between Bexley to the west and Brighton-Le-Sands to the east.

History
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Rockdale today was known by a number of names: Frog Hollow, then White Gum Flat and later as West Botany. The name Rockdale was suggested by the suburb's first postmistress Mary Ann Geeves, and was adopted in 1887. Geeves' husband was a worker on the construction of Rocky Point Road. Residential development in the suburb commenced shortly after the opening of Rockdale railway station in 1884.
