Rockdale is a large suburb located 13 kilometres south of Sydney`s central business district, in the St George area. Rockdale is one of the administrative centres for the local government area of the Bayside Council and features a notable commercial district off the Princes Highway. The suburb is found between Bexley to the west and Brighton-Le-Sands to the east.

History
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Rockdale today was known by a number of names: Frog Hollow, then White Gum Flat and later as West Botany. The name Rockdale was suggested by the suburb`s first postmistress Mary Ann Geeves, and was adopted in 1887. Geeves` husband was a worker on the construction of Rocky Point Road. Residential development in the suburb commenced shortly after the opening of Rockdale railway station in 1884.
