Watsons Bay is a charming coastal and harbourside suburb found at the northern tip of Sydney`s Eastern Suburbs. Its headland forms Sydney Harbour`s South Head; with the Harbour`s North Head being found approximately 1.5km northeast in Manly. The suburb consists of a mix of quaint residential and recreational streets, extensive coastal parkland, three beaches and is also home to The Royal Australian Navy`s HMAS Watson base.
Location
History
Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Cadigal people. The suburb is named after Robert Watson, a British sailor who arrived in Australia on the First Fleet, and went on to hold a number of senior positions managing Sydney Harbour, and Macquarie Lighthouse in Vaucluse. The City to Watsons Bay tramline was opened in 1903.

The Gap Bluff coastal reserve offers visitors a range of walking trails and spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean. Further north, South Head Park gives walkers stunning almost 3600 panoramic views of Sydney Harbour, Manly and the Pacific Ocean, and is also home to a number of historical structures including Hornby Lighthouse and the Hornby Keeper`s Cottage. While Lady Bay Beach is a clothing-optional harbour beach, Camp Cove Beach further south is more family-friendly and enjoys some of the cleanest harbour water thanks to its close proximity to the heads. Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel and Doyles on the Beach offer trendy and refined wining and dining, and are found adjacent to the Watsons Bay ferry wharf.
