Vaucluse is an affluent residential suburb located nine kilometres northeast of Sydney's central business district, in the Eastern Suburbs. Uniquely sitting on both Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean, on its eastern and western sides respectively, Vaucluse is a highly coveted residential suburb, with many of its lavish homes enjoying panoramic water views. The suburb is found between Watsons Bay to the north and Rose Bay to the south, and is home to a number of idyllic harbour beaches.
Location
History
Following European settlement, the suburb was named after the stately Vaucluse House, which was built in the area in the early 1800s. This impressive and historical mansion still stands today and is believed to have been named after the Fontaine-de-Vaucluse estate near Avignon in France. Vaucluse is one of a small number of Sydney suburbs to have a French-language derived name, other examples being Sans Souci and La Perouse.

Vaucluse is home to a number of pleasant harbourside beaches including Milk Beach, Shark Beach (accessed via Nielsen Park), Parsley Bay Beach, and Kutti Beach. While the suburb enjoys an extensive coastline on the Pacific Ocean, the high cliff line inhibits direct access to the water on Vaucluse's eastern side.
