Vaucluse Location
History
Following European settlement, the suburb was named after the stately Vaucluse House, which was built in the area in the early 1800s. This impressive and historical mansion still stands today and is believed to have been named after the Fontaine-de-Vaucluse estate near Avignon in France. Vaucluse is one of a small number of Sydney suburbs to have a French-language derived name, other examples being Sans Souci and La Perouse.
