Ramsgate is a small residential suburb located 16 kilometres south of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government areas of the Bayside Council and the Georges River Council. The suburb is situated roughly halfway between Ramsgate Beach and an Inlet of the Georges River, and is found between Kogarah and Monterey to the north, and Sans Souci to the south.
Location
History
Following the European settlement of Australia, Ramsgate was named after the seaside resort of the same name, in England. A model village for the suburb was initially planned for Ramsgate, but later abandoned.

Ramsgate is relatively small and found adjacent to the separate suburb of Ramsgate Beach. It features a small shopping strip in its southwest on Rocky Point Road and Ramsgate Road. The remaining portion of the suburb is largely made up of residential streets. Ramsgate`s northeastern corner is a continuous stretch of green space and includes Rotary Park, Tonbridge Street Reserve and Leo Smith Reserve; the last of which is the southern extremity of neighbouring Monterey`s Scarborough Park.
