History
The name Kirrawee is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word, with two possible meanings: `lengthy` or `place of white cockatoos`. The suburb`s development began with the opening of the Sutherland-Cronulla railway line in 1939. Kirrawee was primarily part of Thomas Holt`s Sutherland Estate and was accessed from Sutherland train station. The area saw significant growth in the 1950s, with many families settling there post-World War II.
