Chifley is a small and friendly residential suburb in Sydney`s southeastern suburbs. This boutique-sized suburb is desirable to homeowners for its close proximity to both Botany Bay and ocean side beaches, and due to the relatively short commute it affords residents to Sydney`s CBD. La Perouse and the New South Wales Golf Club are within easy reach approximately 1km south of the suburb.
Chifley is named after Ben Chifley, Australia`s prime minister from 1945-1949. The first home in the suburb - Bunnerong House - was built in 1825. The area has always been a residential one since European settlement, and was formalised as its own suburb in 1964 by Randwick Council - having previously been apportioned as part of southern Matraville.
Almost entirely a residential suburb, a variety of interesting sites lie adjacent to Chifley including: Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park to the west; La Perouse and St Michael`s Golf Club to the south; and Little Bay Beach and Malabar Beach to the west on the Pacific Ocean.
