Banksmeadow is a unique suburb of Sydney in that it contains no residential land - it is mostly an industrial area servicing nearby Port Botany, which is found due south. Situated on the northern shores of Botany Bay, Banksmeadow lies between Sydney Airport and Botany to the west and Matraville to the east.

History
The suburb of Banksmeadow is named after naturalist Sir Joseph Banks, who was one of the first Europeans to arrive in Australia with Captain James Cook in the late 18th century. Botany Bay is where they first landed ashore before later settling in Port Jackson.
Points of Interest
A completely industrial suburb, there is regrettably little to see in this bay side pocket of Sydney. The suburb's beaches are subject to poor water quality and major erosion, but interesting sites exist in neighbouring suburbs such as Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany and Yarra Bay Beach in Phillip Bay further southeast.
