Allawah is a residential suburb located 15 kilometres south of Sydney's central business district, in the local government area of the Georges River Council. The suburb shares its postcode with neighbouring Carlton. Allawah is part of the St George area and is situated between Hurstville to the north and South Hurstville to the south. The suburb enjoys proximity to Botany Bay and the Georges River.
Location
History
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Allawah today were most likely the Tharawal people, the Gameygal people or the Kameygal people. The suburb's name is of Aboriginal origin and means "make your abode here" or "remain here". Following European settlement, the first land grant in the area was made in 1808. Allawah was originally a farming area. Allawah railway station opened in 1925 and Allawah Post Office opened in 1933.

Allawah is a small suburb and is largely residential. The suburb features a small commercial strip in its north, opposite Allawah train station.
