Coogee is a large and popular beachside suburb in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. A large pleasure pier, similar to those on the English seaside, was erected in the 1920s and contained a theatre, ballroom and restaurant, but was subsequently demolished in 1934 - proving to be a bad match for the sometimes rough ocean currents.
