Annandale is a residential harbourside suburb located 5 kilometres west of Sydney's central business district, in the local government area of the Inner West Council. History
Major George Johnston arrived to Australia on the First Fleet and was granted 600 acres of land in the area that makes up Annandale today. Originally known as Johnston's Bush, Johnston renamed the district Annandale after his hometown of Annan in Scotland. Johnston built a fine residence, Annandale House in 1799, which was then demolished in 1905. In the later decades of the 19th century, a number of picturesque homes were built in the suburb, notable for their "witch's cap" style of roof, which remains a unique architectural feature of the suburb to this day. Annandale today is a leafy pleasant suburb with a historic aesthetic.
